The mid-engine C8 Corvette Stingray has lots of special “Easter Egg” surprises for owners with an eagle eye.

That’s why it should come as no surprise that the LT6 engine in the forthcoming 2023 Corvette Z06 is no exception.

No surprise either that those Easter eggs are images of rocket ships since the early astronauts at NASA were big fans of the Corvette.

Indeed, Ward’s Auto is reporting that 54 – count ’em, 54 – rocket ship Easter eggs are there for the seeing on the engine block, valve covers, and various other components of the LT6 engine, the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine ever built for a production car.

The flat-plane crank LT6 – with its aluminum block, CNC-ported intake and combustion chambers, forged aluminum pistons, forged titanium connecting rods, dry-sump lubrication, and other high-tech performance features – produces a whopping 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque while redlining at 8,600 RPM.

The rocket ships pay homage to the Corvette team’s codename for the engine which was “Project Gemini.” The name was no doubt inspired by NASA’s space program with the team referring to their clean-sheet design of the Z06’s LT6 V8 engine as their “moonshot.” Gemini is also a reference to “twins” which can be seen in the form of the LT6’s twin intake manifolds, as well as the fact that the LT6 and the LT6.R engines were co-developed together.

Those easter egg rockets ships aren’t just for looks either. The master engine builders at the Performance Build Center can look at certain parts and know exactly which way they are installed based on which way those rocket ships are facing. Each engine requires about three hours for an engine builder at the PBC to assemble.

We can’t wait to hear from our readers how many of these special surprises they are able to find once they finally take delivery of their own Z06 later this year.
