’32 Fords at the Amelia Concours!

I just returned from a fun and sunny weekend on Amelia Island, Florida. The Amelia Concours has been one of my favorite high end car events for a number years, largely because show-founder Bill Warner always had the vision to include historic American race cars, customs, and hot rods classes, when possible. Although Hagerty just took over and ran the event, they luckily kept Bill’s Amelia spirit and car classes intact. This year’s show offered a 90th anniversary of the 1932 Ford class, but focusing solely on postwar hot rod examples. How cool is that? Among the historic entires you might recognize were the Pacific Gunsight Special, the Ray Brown roadster, and the iconic Doane Spencer roadster. Lesser-known but equally spectacular entires included Ken Gross‘ ’32 (who put the class together), the Pete Henderson roadster,  Bernie Couch roadster, the Donn Lowe/ Buddy Pepp ’32, and more! Honestly, it was an incredible gathering of really significant hot rods, and I’m blessed that I was there to witness it… Even thought I ended up judging the Davis class. Ha ha.

Highlight of my day? There were actually two: Sitting in Ray Brown’s ’32, and riding shotgun with Bruce Meyer as he accepted the Chairman’s award (which trumps Best in Class) for the Spencer roadster. See below:

(Note: Sorry I don’t have more pictures of the cars, but some of you do?)
