Last December, German carmaker Mercedes-Benz unveiled its last collaboration with the late fashion designer Virgil Abloh. Named Maybach by Virgil Abloh, the car is a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S680 model and will run for a limited quantity of 150 units.

Designed in partnership with Mercedes-Benz’s chief design officer Gorden Wagener in 2021, the car is the last collaboration that Abloh participated in before his untimely passing in November last year.

The inaugural reveal last December is a solar-powered electric car that produces zero emissions. For this for-sale Mayback by Virgil Abloh, it is fitted with a 6.0-litre V12 engine. Like the showcase vehicle, the luxury sedan also features a two-tone colour scheme of sand and black.

“Project Maybach’s iconic two-tone colour-way does [remain] and it is the most striking design element connecting the limited edition to Project Maybach,” Wagener said in an interview with dezeen.

On the car’s exterior, its upper portion is lacquered in a glossy obsidian black. The lower part, side flanks and special forged rims are painted in a sand hue. Other signature Maybach elements are also translated through the 20-inch wheels and trademark barred grille.

Moving to the car’s interior, the cabin also sports the same two-tone palette with the steering wheel, doors, lower dashboard, and ceiling lined in black. At the same time, the car’s upholstery comes in sand hued Nappa leather. The car is also decorated with a Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logo.

Alongside this release is a special capsule collection designed by Abloh’s Off-White label. The accompanying fashion items include streetwear staples like cotton t-shirts, fleece sweatshirts, hoodies and a canvas cap. These clothing are in the same sand and black tones, and its design cues from the four-wheeler.

One of the standouts from the collection has got to be the pair of suede driving gloves. It sports a blue Velcro strap across the wrists and spells, “ABLOH” — a tribute to the visionary and culture luminary.

For the lucky ones who managed to get their hands on this limited release of the Maybach by Virgil Abloh, they will be given a custom-made wooden containing a 1/18 scale replica of the exact vehicle, two car keys and a carabiner hook and a special car cover bearing the Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logos.
