This Outmode video game unfolds in an insane synth universe

Remember the game Outrun? Of course you do! The arcade and console classic is an on-rails racing game featuring some of the best Ferrari Testarossa-ripping action the mid-1980s had to offer. Now a developer is building a game with similar action, but this one cranks up the 80’s to an insane synth level that puts the aesthetics into a glorious new universe. The game is called Outmode and it’s currently available as a free demo on Steam.

The game is still in the give-me-money to help make it a reality phase, as evident by the Kickstarter link posted above. But the bones of it look excellent. I’m down with the visuals, even if it veers into a bit too much at times, as overall it’s pretty great. The plan is to create multiple game modes from multiplayer to a career mode. There will be VR support and it also sounds like the dev wants to bake in the ability to pair the game with a wheel and pedal setup if you have one.

This looks like the perfect game to fire up once you’ve been… mentally enhanced… and drive off through the lights and sounds of the Outmode universe. Check out some of the screenshots I snagged from the video above:
